Participants join the meeting with their cameras and microphones switched off by default, unless this option has been edited by the meeting's host.

During a session, it is possible to edit camera and microphone settings from the meeting interface. If you are using the desktop app, the microphone and video options will be on the bottom left corner of the screen. If you see a red slash over the microphone or the camera icon, it means that your microphone or camera are switched off. To turn your microphone or camera on, click the corresponding icon once.

Click the arrow next to the microphone icon to find the microphone and audio settings. From the in-meeting menu, you can select another microphone or audio device (e.g. switch from the computer's internal speaker and mic to a headset). Zoom is usually able to automatically switch the audio and microphone to a newly connected headset. If you cannot see the desired device in these options, e.g. your headset doesn't show on Zoom, make sure that it is properly connected to your computer, and try exiting and rejoining the meeting.

Select "Audio Settings..." to open the Zoom App audio settings. This option will open another window where you can test your microphone and choose the level of background noise suppression (i.e. how strongly the microphone filters out sounds other than your voice), among others.

Press the arrow next to the camera to find your video settings. You can choose another camera connected to your device or select a virtual background for your in-meeting video. Click "Video settings..." to see the Zoom app Video settings window. There, you can select the maximum number of cameras per screen in Gallery view and edit your own video lighting, among other options.
