Using the Zoom mobile app

It is advisable to use the Zoom desktop app for hosting and attending online lectures, as the mobile app has limitations (e.g. gallery view can only show max. 4 cameras per screen). However, the most important features are present in the mobile version, and it can be used to attend meetings when the desktop app is not available.

Download the mobile app

If you join a meeting via a link, but haven't used Zoom yet with your phone, you will be prompted to download the mobile app before joining your first Zoom meeting. You can also do it beforehand: Either go to https://zoom.us on your phone and select the "ZOOM Cloud Meetings" link offered at the top of the page, or go straight to the Zoom Download Center at https://zoom.us/download, and you will be offered download options for your phone specifically. Select "Download from Google Play" or "Download from App Store" under the "Zoom Client for Meetings" title to get the Zoom App on your phone.

NB! The "Controller for Zoom Rooms" app offered on the download page is NOT for joining meetings.

It is also possible to download the app to your phone from your computer, if you have signed in to your Google or iCloud account on the browser. Visit the Zoom download center and you will find links to download and install the iOS and Android apps. Scroll down to the section "Zoom Mobile Apps" and select the appropriate download option for your device, as below.

It is NOT advisable to go directly to the store on your phone and search for Zoom there. You could end up downloading something harmful that pretends to be Zoom, or one of several Zoom-related apps that are not the meeting tool that you need.

If you do decide to do this, make sure to only download the app named "ZOOM Cloud Meetings".

Logging in to your Diak Zoom account

Once you have the app installed, open it and select "Sign in". On the following page, select "Sign In with SSO". Type "diak-fi" as the company domain, and press "Continue". You will be directed to the Diak Office 365 login page on your browser. Log in with your Diak username (use the format "[email protected]" if you are a student, or "[email protected] if you are a staff member) and your Diak password.

It may be possible to receive an error message when trying to log in on the browser, if you are currently signed on to an Office 365 account from another organization. If this happens, you can e.g. go to https://portal.office.com and log out from your current account, and then try to Sign In again from the Zoom app.

Joining a meeting and in-meeting functions

Once you are logged in to your Diak Zoom account on your phone, you can join meetings by opening an invite link, or by selecting "Join" in the Zoom app and entering the Meeting ID and passcode (if required) provided by the meeting host. NB! If you are joining a Zoom meeting connected to a Diakle course, make sure to join by pressing the Join Meeting button in the Zoom activity on Diakle.

The first time you join a meeting, Zoom may ask for permissions e.g. to use your microphone. If you deny these, you may not be able to use your microphone or camera during meetings, unless you change the permission settings on your phone.

When joining a meeting, press the "Wifi or Cellular Data" button to connect to the meeting's audio, if prompted. Depending on your phone, you may select this as the default option from the app settings, so you won't have to select it every time you join a meeting.

The menu buttons may disappear from your view if you don't click on anything for a while. You can make them appear again by clicking on your screen once.

Switch your microphone and camera on and off by clicking the corresponding icons on the bottom of the screen. If you need to change your screen name, press the "Participants" button, find your own name from the list, click it and select "Rename".

When you press the "... More" option on the main view, you will find the chat and the Reactions options. There you can also change your camera's background.

You can share your screen on your phone too, but make sure beforehand that you have installed the necessary software to open the desired files, e.g. if you need to share a .ppt file, you must have Powerpoint installed on your phone.
