How to: Registering for the Academic Year
Registering as an attending or non-attending student takes place online on MyDiak (http://my.diak.fi).
You can register as attending or non-attending for the academic year on MyDiak if
- the registration period is open
- your study entitlement does not end before the beginning of the next semester
- you have not yet used all the attending and/or non-attending semesters included in your study entitlement.
You can check the length of your study entitlement and the semesters you have used on MyDiak's Registering for the Academic Year -page. Your semester history is shown on the same page where registering takes place.
On the bottom of the page, in Attendances you'll find
- the start and end dates of your current study entitlement
- the attending and non-attending semesters you have previously used.
If your study entitlement is ending or you have no semesters left in your study entitlement to register as attending or non-attending as you need to, please contact your study advisor immediately. If you do not register, you will lose your study entitlement and you cannot continue your studies in the next academic year.
Students register as attending or non-attending for the whole academic year, during the registering period set by Diak (usually from early May to early August). Students can amend their attendance status for the spring semester during the fall semester registration period (usually from early November to early December).
After the registration period is confirmed, you may see the dates on the top of the Registering for the Academic Year -page on MyDiak. You cannot register before the registration period begins.
After the registration period begins, you'll see the Register-button in the Register-section of the page.
By clicking on Register you'll see a pop-up window, in which you can register as attending or non-attending for the coming fall and spring semesters.
After saving your selection, your attendance record on the Attendances-section will be amended to include your registration. Your registration will also be shown on your study entitlement information for Diak's student management.
Diak's degree programme students can ament their attendance status on MyDiak during the registration period. Outside the registration period you cannot amend your status on MyDiak.
To amend your attendance status, open the semester in question by clickin on the Edit-button at the end of the line.
Amend your attendance status and save your changes by clicking Save.
After saving your changes your amended attendance status will be shown in the Attendances-section and in your study entitlement information for Diak's student management.
Only Diak's degree programme students register their attendance or non-attendance for the academic year. Open University of Applied Sciences students and other non-degree programme students always enroll for courses through f. ex. Diak's Open UAS website. Then the OUAS study office registers the students attendance if he/she is granted a study entitlement.
The end date of your study entitlement is usually your estimated graduation date. MyDiak will not allow you to register an attendance status for the whole academic year if your study entitlement ends before the academic year begins or during the semester.
If your study entitlement ends before the coming academic year begins, you'll not see the Register-button at all.
If your study entitlement is ending f. ex. at the end of the calendar year, you will not be able to register an attendance status for the spring semester. If your Personal Study Plan later changes and your study entitlement is continued past the end of the year, your attendance status for the spring semester will be updated by student management. If not, you can register yourself during the fall semester registration period (usually from early November to early December).
If the end date of your study entitlement shown on MyDiak is not correct and you cannot register your attendance status because of this, contact your student advisor immediately to correct the information.
If the end date of your study entitlement shown on MyDiak is correct but you will not be graduating on time, contact your study advisor immediately to begin the process for applying a continuance on your study entitlement.
Do not neglect to register your attendance for the coming academic year. If you do, you will lose your right to study and cannot continue your studies in the coming semester.
You may register your attendance status on MyDiak only if your study entitlement is not ending before the start of the next academic year and you still have unused semesters left on your study entitlement.
If your study entitlement ends before the start of the next academic year, you'll not see the Register-button at all.
If you have no attending or non-attending semesters left on your study entitlement, MyDiak will not show the register-button at all and will instead notify you of the lack of available semesters.
If the end date of your study entitlement is not correct, please contact your student advisor as soon as possible.
If the end date of your study entitlement is correct, but you will not be graduating as planned, please contact your study advisor as soon as possible to update your Personal Study Plan and apply for an extension to your study entitlement if necessary.
If you should register as attending or non-attending as per your PSP but MyDiak will not allow you to register due to the lack of available semesters, please contact your student advisor as soon as possible.
No not neglect to register your attendance status, as this will result in you losing your study entitlement and you cannot continue your studies in the next semester.
MyDiak will not allow you to register your attendance status for the coming academic year if you have already used all the semesters included in your study entitlement. You can read more on the number of attending and non-attending semesters on Diak's website.
If you have no attending or non-attending semesters left on your study entitlement, MyDiak will not show the Register-button at all.
If you have at least one semester left for registering either as attending or non-attending, MyDiak will allow you to register an attending status, but will limit the choices available to you depending on the semesters left on your study entitlement.
In the example below, the student has only one attending semester remaining, as well as one non-attending semester. Therefore MyDiak will allow the student to register as attending for one semester and will automatically offer a non-attending semester for the second. If the student chooses to use a non-attending semester for fall, MyDiak will allow registering as attending for the spring semester.
If MyDiak will not allow you to register as attending or non-attending as you should per your Personal Study Plan, please contact your student advisor as soon as possible.
