Setting a course enrolment key

Users can be added 1) manually by the teachers, or students may 2) enrol themselves using the course key. This chapter will guide you on how to set up the course enrollment key.

On the course area, click on the upper right hand corner settings icon, choose Enrolment methods under Users. 

On the enrolment methods-list view, look for the row titled Self enrolment. At the end of the row there are three little icons. First, activate the student self enrolment method by clicking on the eye icon. The slash over the eye icon disappears and the method is now available. Second, set up the course enrollment key by clicking on the settings icon. 

Note that if you activate the self enrolment method but forget to set the enrolment key, anybody can sign in to the course area without a course key!

You do not need to fill in or change any other settings except for the enrolment key box. Type in a password which is easy to remember. Do not use any spaces. The enrolment key is used by the students only once, when logging in to the course area for the first time. 

Scroll down and click Save changes. The course enrolment key is now set and can be send to the students.
