Small student groups on a course area

Students can create groups on a course area only if the student role has the permission to add groups. In Diak Moodlerooms, the permission to add groups in a student role is given on a system level, so teachers do not need to change the role permissions. In addition to the role capabilities, the students must have access to the user management page of that particular course area. Normally only those with a teacher role may access the course administration view. The teachers may, however, copy the link to the page titled Coursename_Groups  and paste the link somewhere on the course area where students can click the link.

See the instructions below and learn how to get access to the group page link of your course area.

Open your course. 1) Click on the course admin panel and choose 2) Users and 3) Groups.

You're now on the group admin page of your course area. You may copy the link visible in the address bar, go back to any of the course sections and paste the link wherever you like.

Note that there are 3 tabs on the course group page. The default tab is Groups. This is the place where you may add groups manually, and the groups will be visible in the white box below the course name. On the other tabs you may also add groupings and see the overview of groups and groupings (the list of student names belonging to each group and/or grouping). By pasting the page address as a link you also give the students the right to access all of these tabs.

You may paste the address for example into any of the section descriptions on the course area. By clicking on the short name (the code) of the course you may navigate onto the front page of your course and then choose the section or activity which you want to edit. In the Atto editor (as in the image above), paste the address into the editor box and click Save changes.

Now you may check and test the link you just created. Please do the testing in the student view.

Note that in case your course template was copied from another course, there may be links directing to a previous course area group page. The links will have to be replaced with the correct ones on each course.
