Changing the theme

Diak Moodle uses the Snap theme provided by BlackBoard. Snap makes the user experience of Moodle a bit different than the traditional Moodle layout. If you for some reason prefer the traditional layout, you may change the theme back to one of the Moodle core themes.

We do not recommend changing the theme. Not all of the features which are used in Diak Moodle are available with the other Moodle core themes. Blackboard manages the theme palette and may decide about the end of support for some themes. If you are using a theme which is no longer supported by Blackboard, you are responsible for selecting a new theme for yourself. Moreover, all the instructions are done using the Snap theme.

Different themes in Moodle

If you are wondering why you have a different layout in Moodle compared to other students, you have probably changed the theme in your profile. The images below show the basic appearance of the various themes available.

1. Boost theme

2. Clean theme

3. More theme

Edit profile to change the theme in Snap

The theme is changed in your profile settings. Choose the link Preferences in the My Courses page, below your name & picture (snap theme).

Then choose Edit profile in the first column (Snap theme).

Scroll down until you find the drop-down menu for Preferred theme. Select the theme you wish to use (alternatives to Snap are Boost and Clean).

Finally scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click Save changes. Remember, if you wish to switch back to Snap, you have to search the correct location of the settings (edit profile) yourself within the theme you are using.

Changing the theme back to Snap

In other themes, open your profile menu (My profile or Preferences, if available) in the upper right hand corner and choose Edit profile.

Find the drop-down menu featuring Preferred theme and choose Snap (or Default). Scroll down and Save changes.
